Infamous General of the Mexican Army
The “Napoleon of the West” is a tall, regal-looking fellow with pale skin and an elegant black moustache. His noble heritage is evident in his every move. He wears the uniform of a Mexican general, but it’s often creased and dusty from leading his troops in the field. It’s impossible to overlook the aura of command that surrounds him.
Yes, this is the same General Santa Anna of the Alamo fame. After the war of Texas independence, He was returned to Mexico.
When Mexico defaulted on its loans from, and was invaded by France the Mexican government gave Santa Anna control of the army and ordered him to defend the nation by any means necessary. He engaged the French at Veracruz. During the Mexican retreat after a failed assault, Santa Anna was hit in the left leg and hand by cannon fire. His shattered ankle required amputation of much of his leg, which he ordered buried with full military honors. Despite Mexico’s final capitulation to French demands, Santa Anna used his war service to re-enter Mexican politics as a hero. He never allowed Mexico to forget him and his sacrifice in defending the fatherland.
Ol One Leg also lead troops against the United States in the Mexican- American War (1846 – 1848) during which American troops captured and kept his prosthetic leg.
More recently Santa Anna has been given command of Emperor Napoleon III’s Army of Norther Mexico (AKA “Army of Night”) and is rumored to be getting Mexicali prepared to be used as a staging area for an invasion of California and Lost Angels.
